noun

  1. the tendency toward a relatively stable equilibrium between interdependent elements, especially as maintained by physiological processes.

Our brain is a powerful organ. From it comes instruction for solving problems and carrying out the duties of day-to-day life. For our bodies to function at their highest and best potential we need to maintain a state of homeostasis. To do this, we must access the many reflex areas on the surface of our skin. They are numerous on the bottom of the feet and hands, yet there are very important reflex areas in our ears and face, as well. This is the reason clients walk out our doors in a renewed sense of well being. They may have had a stress relieving facial or reflexology treatment on their hands or feet.

A frequently asked question is, "What is the difference between a massage and reflexology?" Many think they are the same. They are not. The difference in a massage and reflexology is that a massage delivers relief to muscle tissue at the surrounding areas of the massage. Reflexology sends signals to our brain when the reflex points are having pressure applied directly to the culprit that is causing pain. Our blood and oxygen supply is delivered throughout our bodies to the extremities. If there is blockage from the carrier vessels, the flow is obstructed and discomfort is produced. Reflexology will ease the pain by relaxing the course of blood and oxygen supply and in many cases, heal the organ tissue that has been compromised.

The most memorable treatment that I have ever given was on a man that had lung cancer. The session began with him breathing so hard, with little oxygen in his lungs to support his large frame. His chest heaved with each labored breath. About 5 minutes into the session, he became very quiet. His chest no longer was laboring for air. After his daughter got him back into their vehicle, she came back into the salon to thank me for the service. Her dad had gotten much needed relief from the inflamed lung cavity and the back pain he had suffered with for many days, was now gone.

Reflexology will pin-point areas in distress and bring relaxation to those areas so that the body can do what it was designed to do. Heal itself.

Disclaimer:

For those with terminal health issues, reflexology cannot reverse those conditions…but it can give the one in this type of situation, relief from the pain that is associated with these issues.

My prayer for you in this new year, is that you will find yourself facing favorable opportunities that create stability in the life you were given to live.
